The government authority in Boston, Massachusetts seeks a vendor to provide ultrasonic rail testing services for its transit mainline track system comprising approximately 140 miles, covering the Green, Orange, Red, Blue, and Mattapan/PCC Lines. Inspections are to be conducted on a semi-annual basis starting in August 2026, for a period of three years, with two optional one-year extensions at the discretion of the agency. The frequency of inspections may be adjusted during the contract term.
The selected contractor will be responsible for furnishing, operating, maintaining, and powering a hi-rail vehicle that is self-propelled, diesel-powered, and capable of operating on and off track at standard level crossings. The vehicle must comply with all relevant regulations, fit within specified clearance envelopes, clear all obstructions, navigate tight curves of up to a 100-foot radius, manage grades up to six percent, and include seating with a seatbelt for at least one agency employee. Vehicle clearances will require certification by agency Maintenance of Way Track Engineers prior to the commencement of testing. The initial contract period is one year.
