NASA is inviting industry partners to participate in the Moon to Mars NextSTEP-3 Appendix B: Architecture Studies, focusing on the development and refinement of concepts that address critical gaps in architecture for upcoming lunar and Mars missions. These studies are intended to advance the capabilities necessary for long-term, human-led scientific exploration in deep space, emphasizing innovation, risk reduction, and sustainable partnerships.
Under this initiative, selected partners will engage in recurring opportunities to contribute architecture concepts, infrastructure, transportation, habitation solutions, mission operations, and science capabilities for the Moon and Mars. The program operates under a Multiple Award Task Order Contract (MATOC) structure, where only MATOC holders may compete for specific directed-topic calls. Awards will be granted as Firm-Fixed Price Task Orders, with payments tied to the achievement of defined milestones.
This approach allows for flexibility and ongoing refinement of NASA's exploration blueprint, with several proposal calls expected each year. Both directed and open-topic calls are planned, enabling diverse participation in shaping the future of deep space exploration through collaboration with leaders in industry, academia, and the international community.
