The government authority in California is seeking a vendor to provide machine mastication services as part of a strategic mastication project within a national forest. The scope of work involves conducting mastication treatments in specified units, which requires all brush—both dead and living—that exceeds 6 inches in height to be mechanically masticated through shredding, mulching, or chipping processes.
The contractor will be responsible for masticating all conifer and hardwood trees with a diameter at breast height (DBH) of 9.9 inches or less, except those designated as leave trees. Selection and retention of leave trees must ensure 20–25 foot spacing between them, optimizing forest management objectives. A pre-bid field tour is scheduled for April 30, 2026.
Best-fit vendors:
• Experience in forestry or land management machine mastication projects
• Equipped with machinery for shredding, mulching, or chipping brush and small diameter trees
• Proven track record with government or public-sector forestry projects in California
• Skilled workforce knowledgeable in tree selection and forest spacing practices
