Jackson Public Schools is soliciting proposals from qualified Michigan law firms to serve as legal counsel for the Board of Education and administration. The scope of services includes general counsel and governance, labor and employment, special education, student matters, civil rights, business and finance, litigation, and training. The engagement is for a three-year term with an option to renew for two additional one- or two-year terms. The District serves approximately 3,700 students in Jackson, Michigan.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Attorneys assigned must be active members in good standing of the State Bar of Michigan
  • Lead attorney must have at least 10 years of experience representing Michigan public school districts
  • Firm must currently represent at least three Michigan K-12 districts, ISDs, or public school academies
  • Firm must carry professional liability insurance of at least $2,000,000 per claim
  • Firm must have no unwaivable conflict of interest with the District, its board members, or its bargaining units
  • Firm must submit signed Iran Economic Sanctions Act certification
  • Firm must submit signed familial disclosure statement
