The government authority in Fort St. John, British Columbia is seeking a vendor to provide IT wireless network replacement services. The agency operates a recreational network using a Cisco 2504 wireless controller and various Cisco access points, serving both corporate and guest devices as well as recreational group tenants. The wireless network supports approximately 350 employees with roughly two devices per employee.

The project includes supplying 125 indoor and 25 outdoor wireless access points, a controller (cloud or on-premises), and establishing a five-year maintenance, support, and licensing contract. While the City does not expect to replace existing CAT5E or CAT6 cabling, bidders should note this limits the throughput of newer Wi-Fi access point standards. Support for Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) or newer is required, with preference given to Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) solutions. Wi-Fi 6-only solutions will score poorly in the technical evaluation.

The contract period is slated for one year, with a focus on robust wireless network performance, ongoing maintenance, and future-ready technology.

Best-fit vendors:

• Expertise in deploying enterprise-scale wireless networks

• Authorized Cisco partner or equivalent wireless vendor

• Experience with Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 technologies

• Ability to provide long-term maintenance and licensing contracts

• Proven past performance with municipal or government clients in Canada
