Vendors must ensure the solution's database is segregated from front-end systems such as web and application servers, and this segregation approach should be clearly described. The entire system is required to operate behind a firewall to limit and protect access, and data must be kept strictly segregated from other customers. Further, all vendor-supplied defaults and unnecessary default accounts are to be changed or removed prior to system installation. The ability to immediately disable all or part of the system in the event of a security issue is also required.
