The City of Salem, Massachusetts is seeking a vendor to provide comprehensive destination stewardship and marketing services aimed at promoting sustainable tourism within the community. The selected vendor will be responsible for balancing the needs of both the destination and local residents, ensuring the integration of sustainable tourism values into all relevant activities.
Key responsibilities include collaborating with local partners in the tourism economy to lead and advocate for sustainable initiatives, assisting in the implementation of programs, policies, and ordinances related to travel, tourism, marketing, and visitor services, as well as collecting and analyzing tourism data to identify trends and visitor behaviors. The organization should demonstrate openness, inclusivity, and broad representation across all sectors of Salem's diverse tourism community.
The scope of work further includes developing and continuously updating an overarching strategy for tourism planning, development, and marketing, with a focus on sustainable practices and destination stewardship. The vendor will also be expected to produce and distribute an annual visitors guide in both print and digital formats, and to organize familiarization trips for members of the press and tour operators. The contract period for these services will be three years.
