The State of California is seeking a qualified vendor to provide a 3D imaging and analysis system designed for forensic firearm and tool mark examination. This comprehensive solution will support the acquisition, visualization, comparison, and database searching of three-dimensional topography on fired cartridge cases, bullets, bullet fragments, and other tool marks, contributing to investigative leads, casework, and laboratory validation.

The required system includes both a desktop (benchtop) 3D scanning unit with high-resolution imaging (feature size of ≤ 2 microns, depth resolution of 1 micron or better) and a portable 3D scanning device capable of approximately 3 microns per pixel and rapid scan acquisition times. Supporting components include 3D imaging, database and analysis software, compatible workstations, training for examiners, and delivery and installation.

In addition, the solution must provide at least three years of maintenance, software updates, and technical support. Key features include the ability to generate quantitative similarity or match scores, support for multiple authorized users, remote viewing access for examiners on the same network, and functions for annotation, measurement, and export of images and data.
