Professional artists and student artists, working under the supervision of a professional artist or art teacher, are invited to submit designs for painted utility boxes as part of a public art initiative. Artists will be responsible for preparing, painting, and sealing designated utility boxes, using approved paint brands and high-quality, professional materials. The vendor must provide materials for cleaning, priming, and sealing the utility boxes, while the artists are required to supply their own painting materials.
This project aims to bring cost-effective public art to streets, define neighborhood identity, and help deter graffiti. Artwork created under this program is considered temporary and remains the property of the program. The initiative encourages both professional artists and promising student teams to participate under appropriate supervision.
Best-fit vendors:
• Professional artist collectives with public art experience
• Organizations supporting student art with professional supervision
• Firms experienced in urban beautification projects
• Knowledge of approved art materials and preparation standards
