DESCRIPTION

A government authority in Washington, DC is seeking a vendor to provide food security program services through the Micro-Grants Food Security Program (MGFSP). The purpose of this program is to assist agricultural agencies or departments in eligible states and territories to improve both the quantity and quality of locally grown food in communities experiencing food insecurity. This is achieved by competitively distributing subawards to eligible entities engaged in small-scale gardening, herding, and livestock operations.

The program aims to support eligible agencies or departments of agriculture in distributing competitive subawards that increase the supply of locally grown food through initiatives in small-scale farming, livestock management, and related activities. Projects should focus on increasing access to fresh, nutritious food, creating or expanding local sales channels for commodities and specialty crops, and purchasing essential tools, equipment, seeds, and supplies. Special emphasis is placed on promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices and rural economic systems, supporting agriculture, forestry, grazing lands, and rural communities. The scope of services also includes shipping related to the procurement of items necessary for local food production, as well as support for organizations focused on food security, such as religious organizations, food banks, and food pantries.

The contract period for this program will be four years.
