The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is initiating a procurement for research measuring the toxicity associated with emissions from resin 3-D printing, also referred to as vat photopolymerization (VP). The selected vendor will be responsible for determining both the dose-response relationship of pulmonary inflammation and systemic toxicity in mice following exposure to VP printing emissions, as well as evaluating the sensitization potential from inhalation exposure.
This project requires expertise in nanoparticle toxicity, pulmonary and immunological assessments, and specialized inhalation toxicology studies. The research relies on a unique exposure system designed and built by NIOSH, and the prompt transfer of sensitive biological samples between the vendor and the NIOSH Morgantown campus is critical to study integrity. Local vendor presence is mandatory for in-person training, equipment management, real-time coordination, and immediate sample processing.
Comprehensive market research was conducted, reviewing institutions with suitable animal inhalation exposure facilities and relevant scientific background. However, the combined needs for technical capability and geographical proximity to the NIOSH Morgantown campus make a local partner essential for the successful completion of the research objectives. All vendor quotations received within the submission window will be considered only as a means to potentially compete the procurement.
