The selected vendor will provide building trades training services for a coalition consisting of community-led organizations, employers, colleges, unions, and established workforce development partners in Boston, Massachusetts. The initiative focuses on creating a sustainable, climate-ready workforce equipped to address coastal flooding, sea-level rise, storm surges, and excessive heat, emphasizing equity and community engagement.
Training will cover the installation of green infrastructure and nature-based solutions to enhance flood protection and water quality, targeting roles such as landscaping and groundskeeping workers, forest and conservation technicians, climate coordinators, construction supervisors and laborers, civil and environmental engineers, and operating and extraction engineers. Additional emphasis is placed on ensuring the reliability of water and wastewater systems by preparing roles including wastewater and drinking water supply facility operators, general maintenance workers, and operating engineers.
The program further supports the construction of critical flood and coastal protection infrastructure and efforts to increase climate awareness and social resilience through education and outreach. Training will combine classroom instruction with hands-on learning, addressing a range of positions from program coordinators to office support staff and field specialists. The contract will span a one-year period.
