SUMMARY

INL is inviting industry applications to conduct advanced reactor experiments in the NRIC DOME test bed facility, with testing to begin July 2027.

DESCRIPTION

Battelle Energy Alliance, LLC (BEA), as the Management and Operating Contractor of the U.S. Department of Energy's Idaho National Laboratory (INL), is seeking applications from industry partners interested in performing advanced reactor experiments in the National Reactor Innovation Center’s (NRIC) Demonstration of Microreactor Experiments (DOME) facility. The DOME test bed, located at INL’s Materials and Fuels Complex, will be available for such experiments beginning July 2027. This initiative aims to accelerate the development and commercialization of advanced reactors by providing industry with access to a dedicated nuclear reactor test environment.

Interested applicants are invited to submit detailed proposals encompassing reactor technology maturity, fuel management strategies, planned testing procedures, project scheduling from application to decommissioning, integration and interface requirements with the DOME facility, DOE authorization plans, funding sources, and evidence of relevant experience and capabilities. Applications must include a Master Document and Deliverable List as well as a project schedule. All development and application costs are to be covered by the applicants. Applicants must demonstrate significant progress in the conceptual design of their reactor technology and have either DOE engagement or an equivalent safety basis agreement in place.
